Title: Accountant

Location: Stoke-on-trent Department: Accounting & Business Support

Overall Purpose

This position is responsible for handling accounts, taxation, and other business-related activities for BK Plus clients. It also involves supporting managers and Directors in task completion, ensuring work is performed efficiently, meets high professional standards, and achieves agreed recoverability targets. The role necessitates extensive interaction and communication with clients, colleagues, and official organisations.

Brief Job Description

  • Client Liaison: Understand clients’ requirements through detailed communication. Plan and execute accounts, taxation, and business activities for clients, ensuring accuracy and professional presentation of completed work.
  • Legislation Compliance: Stay updated on relevant legislation and manage client affairs accordingly, keeping clients informed about legal updates and deadlines.
  • Client Service: Serve as a primary contact for clients, updating them on job progress, resolving queries to their satisfaction, and escalating issues to the Director when necessary.
  • Task Delegation: Assign client tasks to ensure they are completed accurately, professionally, and within compliance deadlines and budgeted timescales.
  • Opportunity Identification: Use client information to identify opportunities for additional products or services that could benefit their business, informing the relevant Director.
  • Team Support: Support the BK Plus team by developing junior staff, providing guidance, identifying training needs, and ensuring efficient task distribution.
  • Budget Planning: Assist Directors in planning client budget targets and ensure tasks are completed within budgeted timescales and meet recoverability targets.
  • Time Management: Accurately record activity codes on timesheets daily to evaluate company and individual productivity.
  • Additional Tasks: Undertake other tasks as required by the Directors to enhance client service or improve working practices.

Requirements for the role

Qualifications needed – ACA or ACCA or QBE Confidentiality

The job holder is responsible for managing client matters in strict confidence. Discretion should be used at all times and under no circumstances should client information be revealed or used inappropriately. Advice is readily available from your Manager for any queries relating to confidentiality.

Knowledge & Skills

The job holder should have the relevant technical knowledge and ability to carry out audit, accounts, taxation and business related services required by the client including any legislation which applies. In addition the job holder should have a good knowledge of general office procedures and possess excellent communication skills.

Company Knowledge

The job holder requires knowledge of BK Plus’ working procedures along with a good understanding of the products and services available to clients and how the need for these can be identified.
